The Maru Research Center is an independent research station located on the northern shore of Lake Malawi.  In association with Aquanuts Divers, local fishers and other Malawian organizations we conduct research and monitoring programs on Lake Malawi.  Our goal is to be a Center at which Malawians and people from all over the world come together to better understand the Lake.  We welcome collaborative efforts with organizations inside Malawi and those further abroad and provide various opportunities for individuals to work with us on our research

Lake Malawi is home to an estimated 1000 species of cichlid fish, by far the most biologically diverse lake on the planet. Yet with 1/3 of these species still waiting to be properly scientifically described, there is a lot of work still to be done!
